Landlord Information Sharing Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can OOCP tell me what apartments and landlords are good?

A: OOCP does not maintain any information about the quality (good or bad) of a certain apartment or landlord, and OOCP cannot provide you with this type of information. But, there are other ways you can discover this information. When you find a place you like, don’t be shy about asking the current tenants if they have had a good experience living there. Current tenants are in the best position to give you information about potential problems you may encounter with an apartment or a landlord if you decide to move in.

OOCP also maintains a Landlord Information Sharing Program. The program provides a written record of challenges and/or positive experiences that students have filed against a particular landlord and any written response from the landlord. Files are organized by landlord and include a history of all complaints that have been filed against a particular landlord and the landlord’s responses (or failures to respond). This resource allows you to compare different landlords’ records, and you can use this information as one factor in making a final decision about where to live. It is useful to evaluate the number of complaints a landlord has received, but also the substance of the challenges and landlord’s responsiveness to the issues.
