Q: Is there a limit to the number of roommates or housemates my son or daughter can have?

A: Yes. The City of Syracuse Property Code limits the number of unrelated individuals who can live in a unit. In the area surrounding campus, generally no more than five unrelated individuals can live in a unit. For example, in a two family house, no more than five unrelated people can live in the downstairs apartment and no more than fiveunrelated people can live in the upstairs apartment. It may be useful to contact the City of Syracuse Code Enforcement Division to check on how many individuals can live in an apartment that your son or daughter is considering renting. The phone number for The Code Enforcement Division is 315-448-8695.
