The Department of Recreation Services coordinates a variety of recreational programs, activities, and facilities. Activities include intramural sports, club sports, outdoor education programs, fitness classes, wellness programs, and Late Night at the Gym. Weight rooms and fitness centers are available for students to use in Archbold Gym, Goldstein Student Center (on South Campus), Marion Hall, and Brockway Hall. Students may use the swimming pool in Archbold Gym or in the Women’s Building. There are also outdoor tennis courts and softball fields on Main and South campuses for recreation. Students can play pickup games of basketball, volleyball, and other sports in Archbold Gym, Flanagan Gym, or the Women’s Building. Lockers are available for students while they work out. Be sure to bring your own lock.
Drumlins Golf CourseDrumlins West (public) is an 18-hole golf course that is open daily April through October, weather permitting. The program offers golf and club rentals free of charge to all full-time SU undergraduate students with a valid SU I.D. Discount rates are available for use of the driving range. During the academic year, full-time SU undergraduate students may play tennis at Drumlins at no charge Wednesday through Saturday evenings from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Students must present their SU I.D. Call Drumlins Tennis Club at 315-446-2323 to make a court reservation.
The Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS) promotes, supports, facilitates, and recognizes public and community service as a fundamental part of the teaching and learning experience for students, faculty, and staff. CPCS provides information on more than 400 community agencies and 12,000 placements. CPCS administers the Syracuse University Literacy Corps (SULC), and coordinates service-learning placements for students enrolled in academic credit-bearing courses.
The Schine Student Center is the hub of student activity at Syracuse University. Within the center are two lounge spaces—Ludwig Lounge and Panasci Lounge—for study or relaxation. The Schine is also the location of the main SU Bookstore, Goldstein Auditorium, Schine Box Office, and the Jabberwocky Café, which offers digital cable, wireless Internet access, food, live entertainment, and a great atmosphere.
Student Employment Services maintains information about all student jobs, including on- and off-campus, work-study, and community service positions. Staff members also assist students with questions regarding job seeking, job training, and work-related problems. Students must be registered for six or more credit hours to apply for student positions.
Syracuse University Library provides students with many services, including library orientation, instruction in using SUMMIT (the online library catalog) and web databases, and reference assistance (in person, via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or via LibChat) as well as interlibrary loan and document delivery, multimedia production, digital services, online course reserves, services to students with disabilities, access to rare books and manuscripts, and an extended-hours study area.
Information Technology and Services (ITS) establishes and maintains most of the computing infrastructure on campus, maintains public computer labs, and assists students who have their own computers. Computing help is available through the following options:
There are nine student computer labs located around campus. The computers are directly connected to the SU campus network, allowing e-mail communication and Internet access.
